Timothy was born on March 12, 1955 in Webster City, IA to Kenneth Carl Christianson and Shirley Ruth Christianson. He was a graduate of South Hamilton High School's class of 1973 and Grinnell College. He attended Drake University and the University of Iowa College of Medicine, earning a Doctorate of Medicine in 1985. After attending the Internal Medicine Residency program at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO, and practicing Emergency Medicine in Leavenworth, KS, Timothy became a Research Fellow at The Wilmer Eye Institute Johns Hopkins, where he did Vitreo-Retinal research. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University, completing his Ophthalmology Residency. Tim returned to the Kansas City area to practice ophthalmology, and also attended the Mason Eye Institute University of Missouri Columbia. Timothy earned a Fellowship in Anterior Segment Ophthalmology. Timothy's practice emphasis was in corneal refractive surgery, and he performed over 50,000 procedures through his work affiliation with ICON LASIK in Denver, CO. Tim donated his eyes after his death.
Timothy was blessed with two amazing children with his former wife, Shelly. He dearly loved being with family and friends. He enjoyed snow skiing, go-carting, horseback riding, and travel. An avid amateur radio operator, Timothy earned his amateur-extra ham radio license at the age of 15 (WA0TVD) befriending many, including Wally Schirra, with whom he shared a March 12 birthday, and the NASA space shuttle crew over the radio waves.
Tim had a passion for helping many people enjoy the gift of sight through refractive surgery.
Timothy was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Carl Christianson, former Hamilton County Attorney, brothers Jeffrey and Patrick, and niece Katy. Survivors include his mother, Shirley Christianson; his loving wife, Sonia Bauer Christianson; his former wife, Shelly Christianson; his son, Brandon Hunter Christianson; his daughter, Kelsey Alexandra Christianson; his brother Michael (Jean); sister Melinda; brother Jonathan (Cindy); niece Haley, and nephew Aaron.
